Our orchestra will give a bonus concert conducted by Ken'ichiro Kobayashi on 25 May at the Erkel Theatre!

50 years ago, legendary conductor Ken'ichiro Kobayashi won the 1st International Conductors’ Competition of the Hungarian Television, where he conducted the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in the semi-finals. Our joint concert to celebrate half a century of mutual friendship will be held on May 24 at the Liszt Academy. Tickets sold out in a few hours, so many of you missed the opportunity. Therefore, we have decided to repeat the concert the next day, on May 25, 7 pm, at the Erkel Theatre! 100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Railwaymen’s Singing and Music Society, the predecessor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra. The MÁV Symphony Orchestra will commemorate its predecessor, the Railwaymen's Singing and Music Society, founded 100 years ago on 10 February 1924 in the theatre of the MÁV Northern Main Workshop, on the Brahms Evening on 15 February. The choir's principal conductor was László Seres, the artistic director and conductor of the orchestra was Emil Ábrányi until 1942 and Jenő Kenessey from 1942.

Péter Csaba, our permanent guest conductor, has received the Medal of Honour of the Reina Sofía School of Music

Péter Csaba, the permanent guest conductor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, received the Medal of Honour of the Reina Sofía School of Music on June 20. The Medal of Honour of the Reina Sofía School of Music was presented to the artist in Madrid by Queen Sofia of Spain herself. The award was given to Péter Csaba for, among other things, the organisation and artistic direction of the "Encuentro de Musica y Académia“ event in Santander, an initiative that gives tomorrow’s up-and-coming talents the opportunity to work with great international masters for a month and present their joint productions at the end of the process.

Our orchestra is invited to perform in Klagenfurt and Salzburg

It is always a pleasure when the MÁV Symphony Orchestra is invited to perform abroad. This time, the ensemble will be travelling to two prestigious concert venues in Austria. With the next guest of the Music Show, András Péter Kovács, we will primarily discuss what lies beyond humor: the individual, destinies and inspirations. Besides profound topics, there will be room for play as well; we will reveal what makes good musical humor and what is the benefit of laughing.

Carnival - Concerts for grandchildren and grandparents

Saint-Saëns, the famous French composer, has written a joyful piece in which he portrays the charming and fearsome inhabitants of the forest. It is entitled The Carnival of the Animals. On February 18, we invite you to this musical carnival of our Grandchildren and Grandparents concert series at a new location! The venue is the Eötvös 10 in Terézváros, and the concert will start at 10:30 am and at 3:30 pm. We would love if children made their own animal masks for the occasion, to wear them at the concert. We wish you a lot of fun with your creative ideas and a special concert experience!

CHANGE OF PROGRAM - Opera Night

The Hungarian premiere of Juraj Filas: Requiem, previously scheduled for January 27, 2023, in collaboration with the Hungarian National Philharmonic, is CANCELLED due to financial reasons. Instead, our orchestra is preparing with an Opera Night. Gergely Kesselyák, our conductor tonight, has based the program of the concert specifically on three outstanding tenors of contemporary Hungarian opera life. Since he constantly monitors the opera performances of neighbouring countries, he also enjoys working with Hungarian singers of the Hungarian diaspora. In 2023, the MÁV Symphony Orchestra will continue to offer brilliant programs for classical music enthusiasts. The regulars at our season pass concerts and the members of the orchestra’s Circle of Friends form a community worth joining, since beyond serving as a musical experience, quality concerts give a place where people can enjoy meeting in person. The orchestra has been giving seasonal performances in Budapest since 1947, in prestigious concert halls such as the Franz Liszt Music Academy, the Müpa Budapest and the magnificent Festetics Palace, with renowned conductors and outstanding soloists. The highly successful Tibor Szőke season pass will be launched in the second half of the 2022/23 season, on 12 January 2023 at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest's Müpa Budapest, and altogether will consist four concerts

The concert of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra and Grammy-winning classical violinist Augustin Hadelich at the Academy of Music

The audience of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra concerts can often meet world-famous soloists and conductors. This time, the orchestra's guest soloist will be the Grammy-winning classical violinist Augustin Hadelich, one of the greatest violinists of our time. The program will include masterpieces by Enescu, Brahms and Tchaikovsky, conducted by András Keller, on December 1, 2022 at the Academy of Music. Grammy-winning (2016) classical violinist Augustin Hadelich was born in Italy in 1984. He started playing the violin at the age of five, and became famous as the child prodigy. He was taught by world-famous violinists like Uto Ughi and Igor Ozim.

Cyprien Katsaris plays with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra

Our orchestra is giving a concert on November 24, with the contribution of Cyprien Katsaris, the French-Cypriot pianist. The concert is titled ‘Connections’, and will be held at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. If we take a closer look at the concert program, we immediately see that this time, conductor Róbert Farkas has chosen works from three renown composers, who were living and creating in almost the same era. The connections in dates: Beethoven (1770-1827), Schubert (1797-1828) and Liszt (1811-1886).

Hispania, Hispania – we open the 2022/23 season with a Spanish evening

Péter Csaba, permanent guest conductor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, has put together the first season pass programme of the 2022/23 season from Spanish music. The first piece of the concert is a musical travel guide written by an excellent French composer, Emmanuel Chabrier (1841-1894). He has composed his rhapsody ‘Espaňa’ from his own collection of Spanish folk songs. Next, the audience will hear a piece from Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999); his highly successful concerto for harp will be performed by the harpist Sofia Kiprskaya. Afterwards, our orchestra will play pieces by Manuel de Falla (1876-1946), who is considered the greatest Spanish composer. The MÁV Symphony Orchestra bids farewell to the 2021/2022 season with a masterclass and a concert tour abroad

The leadership of our orchestra deems it important to occasionally invite the guest artists who join the orchestra as soloists or conductors to give a masterclass. These events contribute to the advancement of national secondary and higher music education, and to the high-quality training of students. The Festetics series, conducted by the world-famous Ukrainian violinist Michael Vaiman, will be concluded with a concert featuring works by Tchaikovsky and Arensky, accompanied by two Mozart concertos, the famous Violin Concerto in G major and the “large concert” for two violins, the Concertone. NEW SEASON and OPEN DAY concert

Director of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra György Lendvai, Chief Conductor Róbert Farkas and Conductor Gergely Kesselyák presented the MÁV Symphony Orchestra's 2022/2023 season at a press conference. The orchestra will launch the new season with a free open-air OPEN DAY concert on May 14, 2022 at 6:00 pm in the garden of the Hungarian National Museum. Conductor: Róbert Farkas We were honoured to welcome at the event our legendary Honorary Guest Conductor, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, who returned to Hungary after two years and will conduct the MÁV Symphony Orchestra on May 20 and 26. On the occasion of his birthday, György Lendvai greeted the Maestro on behalf of the Orchestra and presented him with a unique Herend porcelain made specially for him.

100 éve született Cziffra György zongoraművész

Egyedülálló zenei tehetsége Liszt Ferencéhez hasonlítható, főleg káprázatos zongoratechnikai és improvizációs készsége miatt. Liszt és Dohnányi nyomdokain egy olyan előadói hagyományt képviselt, amelyben elevenen él a bravúros improvizációs könnyedség és a különböző stílusok szintetizálásának magától értetődő képessége. Széles repertoárján elsősorban Liszt, Schumann, Chopin, Grieg, Brahms és Rahmanyinov művei szerepeltek. 1921. november 5-én Budapesten született.
