About the show

Three Hungarian masterpieces — three eras and atmospheres: Leó Weiner’s humorous piece Carnival was originally intended for the opening of the former Népszínház–Vígopera and evokes the bustling spirit of the early twentieth century.

Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto in A major was composed during his extraordinarily productive Weimar years in the mid-19th century and represents the wild, captivating world of Romanticism.

By contrast, Ernő Dohnányi’s Symphony No. 2 was written during the years of World War II and bears the marks of history, while at the same time evoking hope through a Bach chorale.

The evening’s soloist is the world-renowned interpreter of Liszt’s works, Gábor Farkas, rector of the Liszt Academy of Music. The concert will be conducted by Levente Török, who is also highly successful as an opera conductor.
