This year, the tradition continues: the four concerts of the Grandchildren and Grandparents Concert Series are once again connected to the four seasons — now expanded with the four points of the compass. Our autumn program leads northward. Edvard Grieg (1843–1907) was born in Norway and incorporated the dances of his homeland into his music. He also composed incidental music for fellow Norwegian Henrik Ibsen’s drama Peer Gynt.
Finland’s great composer, Jean Sibelius (1865–1957), evokes the dances of a royal court from long ago. American composer Leroy Anderson (1908–1975) brought a humorous idea to life when he wrote accompanying music for the clattering sounds of an old typewriter.
The concert will be conducted by the remarkable 14-year-old Lithuanian-Finnish conducting prodigy Arijus Šereckis.
