About the show

Despite all the storms of Hungarian history, the era of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy is still imagined by us in golden hues: at once festive and playful, elegant and close to nature — much like the music of the period itself.

This imaginary spring journey begins with Franz Krommer’s rarely performed Double Concerto, in which the orchestra’s clarinetists, Balázs Sándor and Bence Bajusznács, entertain the audience with the effortless virtuosity of the Classical style. Excerpts from Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons depict the rebirth of nature.

Johann Strauss II’s waltz Tales from the Vienna Woods is especially distinctive not only for its spring-like atmosphere, but also because of its zither solo. The concert concludes with surprise performances by the choir of the Leó Weiner Catholic Secondary School. The evening will be hosted by Edit Székely, and the orchestra conducted by Szabolcs Medveczky.
