The special distinction of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra’s concert on May 7, 2026, is provided by its distinguished performers. The evening’s conductor, Neeme Järvi, is a legendary figure in international musical life, who has led the world’s leading orchestras for decades and shapes the works he conducts with exceptional stylistic sensitivity. The violin soloist is Amira Abouzahra, well known to Hungarian audiences as one of the most exciting talents of the younger generation, whose mature artistic expression and captivating virtuosity have already brought her international recognition.
Their collaboration alone guarantees a memorable evening on the stage of the Müpa Bartók Béla National Concert Hall, made truly special by the program: Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor and Wilhelm Furtwängler’s monumental Symphony No. 2 in E minor.
The first half of the evening features Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, one of the most beloved works of the Romantic repertoire. The solo violin enters immediately, creating an intimate atmosphere, and the melodies flow almost uninterrupted thereafter. The lyrical slow movement resembles a “song without words,” while the light, fairy-like playfulness of the finale evokes Mendelssohn’s magical sound world. The piece is both virtuosic and deeply expressive, offering an ideal platform for the soloist’s artistic individuality.
In the second half, a rarely performed monumental work will be heard: Wilhelm Furtwängler’s Symphony No. 2 in E minor. In this composition, the world-renowned conductor continues the traditions of late Romanticism, combining the dramatic power of Richard Wagner with the monumental architectural style of Anton Bruckner. Lasting nearly 80 minutes, the symphony is a sweeping musical journey in which passionate outbursts alternate with lyrical, introspective moments, offering a deeply engaging listening experience.
The MÁV Symphony Orchestra’s concert, featuring outstanding guest artists, promises an exciting and unmissable musical experience for the audience.
The concert is presented as part of the “All Star Series,” a program realized in cooperation between the MÁV Symphony Orchestra and Pilvax Films, curated by Stathis Karapanos.
