About the show

Comedy and tragedy—like all the greatest artists, Mozart possessed an extraordinary gift for both. The overture to The Marriage of Figaro opens the concert with irresistible energy. Its sparkling rhythms and light, transparent orchestration set the stage for one of opera’s finest comic masterpieces.

Composed during the same period, Mozart’s grand Piano Concerto in E-flat major features the clarinet, still a relatively new addition to the orchestra at the time, lending the work its distinctive colour and warmth.

The second half of the concert is devoted to the "Great" Symphony in G minor, one of Mozart’s most passionate and emotionally charged creations. With its subtle yet deeply tense musical language, it already points toward the expressive world of Romanticism.

The concert is conducted by Gerald Karni, born in 1996 and second-prize winner of the 2024 Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition.
