Mediterranean Celebration

About the show

The magic of the Mediterranean world—sunlit landscapes, captivating rhythms, and the vivid musical colours of the south—runs throughout this programme. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol draws on folk melodies and offers an exceptional listening experience through its dazzling and sophisticated orchestration.

Manuel de Falla’s piano concerto, performed with passion by Gábor Farkas, evokes the mystery of Spanish nights: delicate and translucent, yet charged with elemental power.

The concert opens with Honegger’s dynamic Pacific 231, a celebration of the steam locomotive and the spirit of modernity. It concludes with Bizet’s two L’Arlésienne suites, which combine brilliant themes with the distinctive melancholy of the Mediterranean south.

Arthur Honegger: Pacific 231
