Paris at the turn of the century must surely have been one of the most exciting places in the world, enchanting poets such as Endre Ady and Gyula Juhász, while giving birth to masterpieces such as the musical creations of Impressionism.
Claude Debussy’s early Trio in G major still emerges from the Romantic tradition, yet already reveals flashes of modern, floating harmonies and translucent textures. The four-hand Petite Suite is a sequence of light and playful miniatures.
In the second half of the concert, Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet will be performed, a work whose richness of color and vibrant energy continue to astonish audiences to this day.
