A concert serie of the MAV Symphony Orchestra for elementary school students.
Music can express emotions that cannot be expressed in words. This concert will show how. We will play excerpts from symphonies composed by Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert. The word ’symphony’ originally refers to the harmonious combination of elements, but it also refers to a type of music, an orchestral work in three or four movements. Haydn’s symphony was given the title ’Mourning’ a hundred years after the composer's death. The slow movement of the work is very serious indeed, it can suggest sorrow, but the fast movement that follows is cheerful, as if to comfort the listener. Schubert also wrote symphonies, one of which he titled ’Tragic’. Stories in which something very sad or painful happens are called tragic. He meant this to describe the mood of the first movement of the work, although when we listen to it, we rather think of a masculine struggle rather than sadness. The serene cheerfulness of the following movements offers consolation for this sorrow.
About the concert series: the MAV Symphony Orchestra relaunched its youth series entitled “Concerts for Grandchildren and Grandparents”, which has been a success ever since. the fundamental idea of the series is to share with children the musical experience given by the beautiful sound of the symphony orchestra, and to broaden their knowledge by familiarizing them with the masterpieces of classical music. The program is tailored to the receptivity of children, and is led by a professional presenter, in order to further facilitate their understanding of the music they hear.
