The MÁV Symphony Orchestra has been a long-standing partner and resident orchestra of the international conducting competition named after Bartók–Pásztory Prize winner Antal Doráti, which was first held in 2014. Antal Doráti (1906-1988) studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music alongside Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, and Leó Weiner, who later became internationally renowned composers, and he himself became known worldwide as both a composer and conductor. After spending several years at the Hungarian State Opera House, he went on to enjoy an impressive international career, conducting outstanding ensembles in many European countries, including the Russian Ballet in Monte Carlo, and later becoming a celebrated conductor overseas. In addition to touring countless countries, he was principal conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, and later the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He recorded more than 500 albums during his lifetime and received the Bartók-Pásztory Award in 1986 for his work. example inspires countless young musicians around the world, making this conducting competition, which pays tribute to his work, a worthy ambassador for Hungarian culture. The competition is organized in partnership with the Carlo Felice Opera in Genoa, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre National in Cannes, and its jury is made up of renowned conductors, institutional leaders, and artistic directors from the international music world. The first rounds of the Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition, which will be held for the fourth time in 2025, will take place at the beginning of this summer at three locations organized by international partners, followed by the final in Budapest in October this year.
