The star of the evening is internationally renowned oboist Lajos Lencsés, whom we are delighted to welcome for the third time to the Festetics Concert series. After studying at the Liszt Academy of Music, he continued his education as a scholarship student at the Paris Conservatoire. For decades he has served as principal oboist of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, performs extensively around the world, and has released more than fifty CDs. He has also significantly expanded the relatively limited repertoire of his instrument through numerous arrangements.
One of the special highlights of the program is a movement from Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf’s concerto for oboe d’amore, as well as works by János Koessler, the former composition professor at the Liszt Academy and teacher of Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Ernő Dohnányi, and Leó Weiner.
The final work on the program, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Gran Partita Serenade, is deservedly one of the masterpieces of wind chamber music and remains immensely popular to this day.
