CONDUCTOR

Participants of the Jorma Panula's masterclass
Jorma Panula is one of the world's most renowned conductors today. Although he spent decades as the music director of major orchestras, his fame primarily stems from his pedagogical work. The art of conducting differs greatly from playing an instrument, as its result is reflected through the performance of other musicians. A few decades ago, Panula was internationally hailed as "the wonder of conducting education," after a string of his students went on to become world-famous conductors, including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sakari Oramo, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and others. After 1973, he taught future conductors at the music academies of three capital cities: Helsinki, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, while also holding numerous masterclasses around the globe. The MÁV Symphony Orchestra successfully arranged for the Maestro to hold an international masterclass in Budapest, where active participants of the course conducted the MÁV Symphony Orchestra. The success of this initiative is best demonstrated by the fact that the course is being held for the 11th time this year. The final gala concert will feature the course participants conducting the works. The Jorma Panula International Conducting Masterclass is organized by MasterclassBudapest.
