Mischa Maisky, the world-renowned cellist born in Riga and now living in Israel, studied most importantly with Mstislav Rostropovich, whom he considers his second father and spiritual mentor. In concert, he frequently performs together with his exceptionally talented children, Lily Maisky (b. 1987) and Sascha Maisky (b. 1989).
Their program unites the traditions of Russian Romanticism, Ludwig van Beethoven’s unique Triple Concerto — written precisely for the three instruments they play — and Max Bruch’s moving work based on an ancient Jewish liturgical melody.
The final part of the evening features Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, the revolutionary dance poem premiered in 1913, evoking an ancient pagan ritual. The concert will be conducted by Maxim Rysanov, born in Ukraine, educated in Moscow and later London, who first achieved recognition as a violist before also building a successful career as a conductor.
