Martin Haselböck is a world-renowned Austrian organist, professor of organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and chief conductor of American orchestras. At this concert, he will appear in both capacities: first performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s best-known organ work on the magnificent organ of the Müpa Budapest, then conducting works by two giants of Viennese music.
Ludwig van Beethoven’s youthful First Piano Concerto radiates youthful cheerfulness, while Franz Schubert’s final Symphony in C major, known as the “Great,” stands as a summation of the tragically short life and oeuvre of the brilliant composer. Sadly, Schubert never had the chance to hear the work performed during his lifetime.
The soloist in the piano concerto will be Fülöp Ránki, son of one of the greatest Hungarian pianists of our age, whose playing combines inherited elegance with the captivating vitality of his own youthful personality.
The concert is presented within the framework of the “All Star Series” program, organized in cooperation between the MÁV Symphony Orchestra and Pilvax Films, under the artistic supervision of Stathis Karapanos.
