New Year's Concert of the Cello and Viola Ensembles of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra

The cello ensemble of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra was founded 5 years ago, and its repertoire is extremely broad: from baroque to contemporary and jazz. Their performance of Around the World with Cello was a huge success at TEFest in the summer of 2024 and at the Bratislava Picnic in the autumn. Their New Year's programme includes transcriptions of popular music by composers such as Popper, Schumann, Goltermann, Piazzolla, Henry Mancini, Luis Arnstrong... , as well as tango, ragtime and jazz. We are honoured that world-renowned soloist Gustav Rivinius, cellist, will join the ensemble for this evening. The Brass Ensemble of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra will make its debut at the New Year's Concert. A real curiosity is that the musicians, who play the bass violin, will be performing solo. The unusual ensemble will perform a diverse crossover selection of works by Bach, Handel, Debussy and others, but they will also play swing and, as dance music, evoke the atmosphere of the Rio Carnival.
