About the show

Dear Audience,

The MÁV Symphony Orchestra regrets to inform you that, due to the illness of conductor Christoph Eschenbach, tonight’s concert will take place with changes to both the programme and the performers.

We are delighted to announce that Lawrence Foster, one of the most distinguished conductors on the international music scene, former Music Director of several world-renowned orchestras, and a highly sought-after guest conductor, has kindly agreed to take the podium in place of Christoph Eschenbach.

The programme has been partially revised. The concert will open with Zoltán Kodály’s Dances of Galánta, a dazzling orchestral showpiece, followed by Béla Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 1 for Violin and Orchestra, featuring Gáspár Kelemen, one of the most outstanding talents of the younger generation of violinists.

The second half of the concert will be devoted to Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 1, one of the monumental masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire.

Despite these programme changes, we are confident that this evening will offer a rewarding and memorable musical experience of the highest artistic standard.

Thank you for your kind understanding.
