About the show

Nowadays, the Estonian-American conductor Neeme Järvi is often referred to as the founder of a “conducting dynasty,” as both of his sons, Paavo Järvi and Kristjan Järvi, have also become world-renowned orchestra leaders. Neeme Järvi has worked with outstanding ensembles such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

In collaboration with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, this concert program features both a well-known masterpiece and a rarity. Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor will be performed with Amira Abouzahra as soloist, while the symphony by Wilhelm Furtwängler—better known as a conductor—will offer something new even for the most experienced listeners. This late-Romantic work bears the influence of Anton Bruckner and Richard Strauss.

The concert is presented within the framework of the “All Star Series” program, a collaboration between the MÁV Symphony Orchestra and Pilvax Films, curated by Stathis Karapanos.
